Electricity is used to power different kinds of machines that make work easier for man. Electrical machines work when there’s electrical energy to cause constant flow of electrons along an electric circuit.
An electric circuit is the path through which electrons flow. The electrons must flow through a complete circuit in order to generate electricity. A complete circuit is a circuit that allows the charges to flow continuously from its source to the other components in the circuit. Other components that can be found in an electric circuit include a switch, light bulb and resistor.
The switch is the component that controls the flow of electrons in the circuit. You can use a switch to open or close an electric circuit. Switches are made in different forms such as: toggle switch, push button switch, selector switch, proximity switch, temperature switch and liquid flow switch. These switches can also be classified under hand switches, limit switches and process switches.
The light bulb is the part of the circuit that converts electricity to light. Its main function is to use the energy that the circuit generates. The light bulb is just a type of load that is placed in the circuit.
A resistor in an electric circuit resists the flow of electrons. It is used to reduce the voltage that is in the circuit. A circuit can have up to two or more resistors but their total impact depends on how they are arranged. Resistors also prevent overloading in a circuit.
There are many other components that can be used to form electric circuits. The choice of component to use should depend on the task you want to carry out. Electrical components should be fixed by qualified electricians or electrical engineers because they know how to assemble electrical appliances.
